Frogging!

If you do not have the time or materials for raising frogs, but still would like an amphibian adventure, keep reading! This post is about an activity I like to call frogging. Frogging is catching full-grown frogs, and then releasing them! It is easy, but needs some preparation and practice.

Step 1: Find a location! Frogs only live in certain areas, they do not hang around big and busy cities, so you might have to drive out somewhere. Grassy areas near acreages and farms work, even in most campsites!

Step 2: Materials! For the type of frogging I do, you will need a container to keep them in once caught. I use empty ice cream buckets but some alternatives are home depot’s orange pales or another large plastic containers. You will need to put a centimeter or two of rain or pond water into the bucket as well.

Step 3: Finding! To find frogs, you can lightly kick the grass until one jumps. Frogs often hide in longer grass, and the best time to go frogging is in the evening or early morning.

Step 4: Catching! Once you’ve located a frog, you can cup both hands over it, and then scoop it up. When you pick it up, you want to put it in the container with water, as oils from you’re hand can harm them.

Step 5: Releasing! Now you have two options, one, you can release them back into the wild, and two, you can put them in a kitty-pool to examine them a bit, but after about five minutes, you should begin to release them.

I hope you enjoy frogging! See you soon!
